Wendy is excited to be working with colleagues at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance, particularly Pierrick Chalaye and Kei Nishiyama, on a Deliberation in Schools program. The aim of the program is to build the capacity of young people to contribute to an enlivened democracy, both now and in the future. We are approaching several Canberra schools to launch a pilot program.

4S (Society for the Social Studies of Science) is coming to Sydney in August! Wendy is looking forward to the conference and will be presenting a paper (with Nicola Marks) and running a dialogue as part of the Making and Doing session.

Wendy recently had the opportunity to observe and provide advice to the ACT Education Directorate on its Future of Education process, an exciting conversation about what education in the ACT should look and how it can be transformed over the next 10 years.

A group of lawyers in the ACT recently commissioned a deliberative process to hear from claimants about the ACT’s Compulsory Third Party insurance, to supplement a Citizens’ Jury process that was underway. Wendy designed and facilitated the process, with colleague Nicole Seils from CNS Projects. Notwithstanding assertions that the process was an attempt to undermine the Citizens’ Jury, the design aimed to provide insights to assist the Jury. One of the recommendations of the claimants (an independent panel of medical specialists) was recommended by the Citizens’ Jury, whose final report came out last month.
